Users and User Qualifications |
The Ortiz PVAT is intended for use by qualified professionals such as speech-language pathologists, school and clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, physicians, pediatric clinicians, teachers, intervention specialists, and researchers. Although administration of the test is relatively burden-free for the examiner and does not require advanced formal training, interpretation of Ortiz PVAT results is limited to individuals and professionals with MHS b-level qualifications, which require that, at a minimum, they have completed graduate-level courses in testing and measurement at a university or have received equivalent documented training. Users of the Ortiz PVAT, whether limited to administration as examiners or including interpretation as evaluators, must also be familiar with this technical manual and the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing published jointly by the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education (AERA, APA, & NCME, 2014). Users of the Ortiz PVAT, particularly those who intend to interpret the results, should be members of professional associations that endorse a set of standards for the ethical use of language, psychological, or educational tests or be licensed professionals in the areas of speech-language pathology, psychology, education, medicine, or an allied field. Individuals who do not have advanced formal training in any of these areas may administer the assessment by closely following the procedures outlined in this manual; however, only suitably-accredited professionals with the requisite qualifications are permitted to interpret the obtained results.
Users of the Ortiz PVAT must assume ultimate responsibility for the administration, scoring, and interpretation of any test materials they use. Individuals who have only been exposed to testing and measurement issues through this technical manual will not, in general, be qualified as interpreters of the Ortiz PVAT. Even experienced users of tests and other standardized methods of assessment should adhere to the administration and interpretation portions of this manual to ensure that accepted principles are followed and that best practices are used in administration, scoring, and results interpretation.
