Conceptualization and Initial Planning |
The Ortiz PVAT was designed to assess receptive vocabulary acquisition in children, adolescents, and young adults. In the initial stage of development, a systematic literature review in the area of language development and assessment was undertaken. In particular, research regarding the assessment of vocabulary was reviewed, and topics related to second language acquisition were also reviewed and evaluated. As well, basic aspects of the test were formulated. For example, the set-up for test administration (e.g., computerized administration, audio recording of target words, and the display of four photographs on the screen), the composition of research study samples (English Speaker and English Learner pilot and normative samples), and the data analysis plan were determined during this phase. The main goals of development were defined as accessible administration (e.g., digital presentation, auditory delivery of stimuli), inclusion of both English speakers and English learners throughout all phases of development, and compliance with educational and psychological testing standards.
